It’s funny how Wateen wimax is a wireless technology .. yet there is no support on installing a wireless router to your wimax device. Funnier looking of course is the wimax device itself. Anyway, if you call up Wateen, they tell you that their device is meant to be used via Ethernet cable .. talk about irony. Users had no problem when they connected their Wateen wimax device to their computer through ethernet cable, but when you connect the wimax device to your wireless router, & try to use internet through wireless, it either won’t work, or would work erratically (e.g. Google main page shows up but searching anything results in error). So if you’re in the same mess, here is how to resolve it.
Problem lies in the fact that DHCP server for both the devices were on & conflicting with each other. Trying to turn off the DHCP server for the wimax device didn’t work. Even trying to connect through LAN giving straight IP settings in the LAN setting won’t make the internet work. So finally, this is how I solved the problem.
Open the wimax interface: http://192.168.15.1/
Access the DHCP server settings & change the ending range from 192.168.15.254 to 192.168.15.199. The final figures should look like following
DHCP Server: Enabled
IP: 192.168.15.1
Starting : 192.168.15.2
End : 192.168.15.199
Work regarding wimax is complete now. Next open up the wireless router’s interface .. typically, http://192.168.1.1, though consult your router’s user manual for exact URL.
First, add any WPA security to your router, if necessary.
Second, disable DHCP server
Next, open Network -> LAN setting.
your initial setting should the one through which you had opened the interface (192.168.1.1)
Change this setting so that the IP is in the mask but OUTSIDE the Range of DHCP Server of wimax. So LAN setting in your router should be
IP: 192.168.15.225
Mask: 255.255.255.0
Saving this might initiate reboot of your router, let it.
Next using a standard prepunched straight LAN wire, connect LAN (output) port of your wimax router to any of the fourĀ *LAN* port (use port 1) and NOT the Uplink Port. Restart/Reboot router, wimax if necessary.
Give sometime to the whole setup to configure things (e.g. 1-3 mins). Everything should work normally through wireless router now.
Understand that since you’re using the DHCP server of your wimax device, you are basically using the wireless router to just give your wireless connectivity & not act as the router as such .. that is why you connect through LAN port & not the Uplink port.

thank you for this support.

Sorry for such a long pause .. but Dr. Mehmood, your problem could be that the wifi settings in your computer could be using static IPs. Make sure you note down any settings before changing them btw. Also, you’d have to check if the DHCP server of your wimax is enabled or not. Cause under the settings of this article, the DHCP server of wimax is on, DHCP server of the router is off, and your computer should have the ‘Obtain IP automatically’ settings.

Thank you for the appreciation.
You do not connect any wire to the WAN port because we are using the DHCP server of our wimax device & are basically using the router to “convert” our wire signal of the wimax device to wireless.
