A much asked for requirement of a lot of customers who buy notebook computers from myshop is that they’re not happy with one single partition on their laptops .. and rightly so actually. Even though personal .. most people (at least in Pakistan) feel more comfortable if they’ve multiple partitions on their system .. one for operating system, another one for their data files, & more if necessary. But sadly, almost all PC manufacturer end up shipping their notebook computers with just one recovery partition, & another one is the single operating system partition which is supposed to handle your system, as well as data files.
In Vista systems, it is actually quite simple to break that one operating system partition into multiple partitions without effecting anything else. Please see this post if you want to learn how. Once done, you can not only split your operating system drive (commonly know as the C drive) into multiple partitions, but also, this should not effect the internal recovery system of your laptop (subject to manufacturer btw). We’ve successfully done that on laptops from Hp, Compaq, & Sony Vaio. Dell won’t allow it btw so don’t try otherwise you’ll end up with a non working recovery .. can’t comment on Acer & Toshiba (Toshiba did not have a recovery partition until recently).

I think this topic and “partitions inside the vista” is the same thing. If i am wrong then please mention the difference
